VO Tour - The Journey Home

 19th January

Comes a time when all good things wnd and so it was to be with our holiday.

A pre-pack last night had most things away and left us only the main tent and sleeeping gear to pack in the morning, resulting in us hitting the road at 7:01.

Our route took us across to Euroa and then up the Hume Freeway to Wodonga/Albury. This leg of the trip was incident free and fairly rapid, given the excellent driving coniditions and the 110 km/h speed limit.

From Albury , it was on to Junee, where we paused for lunch, under threatening skies. No sooner had we begun after lunch, than the rain began falling in a steady fashion. The afternoon ended at Molong, where we took dinner at a Caltex Roadhouse.

Sue and I had the best rump steaks we had tasted for many years and the kids had their choice of meals and we were pleased to see that they chose healthy food and vegetables. It was very relaxing and fitting meal as our last on the road. We set off for the final leg of 300 km, intent on driving, only if we felt comfortable.

Sue's contribution on this final day was outstanding. She did half of the final leg and I finished the trip, driving in heavy rain. We were glad to see the lights of Tambar Springs at 9:30pm as we came over the final hill leading into our home. Solid beds, inside toilet, our own shower ... heaven!

(2020 postscript: the trip home from Lake Eildon was 930kms. Sue did a 150km after dinner until it got dark and the final 150km, after sunset, in driving rain, was down to me. In short, it was madness. It was the longest day of driving Sue and I ever did and speaks volumes for our patient children.)
