a perfect way to us this last day but my hear and chest cold dictate some restraint, so bike riding or long walks were out of the mix.
After a coffee in Yamba, we set out by road to Iluka. A ferry ride might have been preferable but the walking required at the other shoreline wouldn't have been wise.
We returned to a favoured spot at Iluka Bluff. Sue's favourite of my poems was written about a day spent at the Bluff and it was a similar day. Blue skies, not clouds, mild temperatures and sunshine. We wandered down to the rock platform after taking in the view from the lookout. Both armed with cameras, we spent an hour or show snapping away happily. There were many highlights but some shots of kites, a friendly kookaburra and the surf were among the best.
From the bluff, we drove into Iluka and stopped at the Fisherman's Co-Op or the best fish and chips of our trip. The location among the Iluka fishing fleet certainly helped.
After lunch, we drove out to the Iluka breakwall, the northern of the two groins which extend out into the ocean to protect the Clarence River mouth. It a very pretty spot and we walked along the beach before climbing the breakwall.
We returned to Yamba, stopping to watch a cane fire from closer than before. The thing that strikes you is the noise as the fire eats through the cane at a rush.
We had coffee at Bean Scene for one final time and then went up to the Pacific Hotel to watch the boats go out, also for the last time on this trip.
We had dinner at Pippi's, just below our unit. Such friendly staff and such pleasant food.
Before and after dinner, I engaged in stealth packing. Its the packing you undertake without your wife - who is in denial - really noticing. Long day tomorrow.
