This morning was spent at the Subaru dealership organising to have the GPS fixed in the car. It will have to be replaced in Cairns when we are there in about a week.
We had lunch by Cleveland Bay, along the Strand and then rode the bikes around the foreshore on the extensive bike track, to Rowes Bay, before returning all the way to the southern end of the Strand and paying a visit to the Museum of Tropical Queensland. Marvellous place, especially the extensive section on the wreck of the Pandora and the upstairs section on the Great Barrier Reef. We ran out of time, so the guy at the reception validated our tickets for tomorrow as well!
On the way back to the car, we passed through the Townsville markets, held in the parkland at the
Strand. They promised a lot but a market is a market.
We finished the day on Castle Hill, the giant pink granite inselberg which dominates the landscape of Townsville. Its more than just a superb 360 degree view ... its also a jogger/walker hangout. We passed seventy or eighty of them walking or jogging up and then down this 286 metre high mountain and its 3.1km road to the top. The car was good enough for us.
We'll sleep well tonight.
