Peter and Art at Panboola Wetlands |
A brief highlight was a visit to the Panboola Wetlands - brief because it was past lunch time and we had to return to the farm. Nice spot from what we saw. In 1997, Alexandra Seddon had the foresight to purchase the first parcel of land in order to turn it into a bird and wildlife sanctuary. As luck would have it, later in the same year, the Imlay Racing Club relocated, leaving the adjacent racecourse - on Crown Land - vacant. In 2002, this was re-gazetted as the Pambula Wetlands for Seddon to manage as part of the sanctuary and she subsequently purchased another 42 hectares to complete the area. In 2003, trustees were appointed to manage the former Crown Land and many are also on the Pambula Wetlands and Heritage Project set up by Seddon. The two bodies are managed as though one. In 2003, the area was named Panboola in honour of the original inhabitants of the area.
It was back to the farm for the afternoon and being a Sunday, normally restless Arty took a rest and watched the Supercars go around on the Gold Coast. It's one of his enigma spots but he has loved the SCs since the days when they were true production cars and Allan Moffatt was chasing Peter Brock up Mountain Strait. Then, it was a whole family affair. Today, he stand almost alone in his admiration for the technical beasts. I sat with him and tried to ask intelligent questions. He was good enough to tolerate me.

A neighbour joined us for a BBQ dinner and lent some stimulation to discussions. A most intelligent and practical lady who has led life of achievement, in many fields woman don't normally seek participation.
On dusk, the King Parrots arrived and entertained us with their antics as they sought the feed left out for them.
