It's seen fuller times, currently holding 18% capacity but still the fishermen come in search of the red claw, an oversized yabbie renowned of these parts. Bag limit is 40 so the only guide I can give you is that its bigger than a king prawn and smaller than a lobster. Not an accurate guide but as close as my interest will allow me. In the summer, skiing and personal water craft are also popular.
Constructed between 1969 and 1972, it was built by the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Authority because of their expertise in dam construction. The primary role of the dam is water storage. In mid January 2008, the dam spillway started overflowing owing to heavy rain. 48 hours later, the dam was at 156% and flooding was being experienced downstream in Emerald, with 2700 residents evacuated. Just seven days earlier, the dam had been at 29%.

Washing this afternoon and then in to Emerald for a final grocery shop before moving slightly west tomorrow to the gem fields around Rubyvale.
